# Comment Navigator for Word

> Comment Navigator is a Microsoft Word add-in for Windows that lists every comment and reply of a document in a numbered, searchable review pane (1, 2, 2.1 …), and exports comments to Excel with the commented text, section, page, author, date, status and replies — no macro. The pane is free forever, and so is exporting up to 50 comments from a document. Comment Navigator Pro (€49 once, VAT included where applicable, not a subscription) adds tracked changes, a Word review log, importing responses from Excel back into Word as replies, anonymised copies and whole-folder export, with a 14-day trial starting on first use of a Pro feature.

Made and supported by STRUCTURES.LV SIA (Latvia). Payments, invoices and VAT are handled by Paddle as merchant of record. Not affiliated with Microsoft.

## Free (no time limit, no account, personal and commercial use)

- Review pane docked in Word: every comment numbered in document order and every reply under it (1, 2, 2.1, 2.2).
- The section heading each comment sits under, e.g. "3.2 Imposed floor actions".
- Search comment text; filter by author and by open or resolved.
- Go to # jumps to a comment by number; click a row to jump to it; arrow keys walk the list.
- Reply to and resolve comments from the pane.
- Export comments to Excel: commented text, section, page, author, date, status, replies. Up to 50 comments a document; the add-in says so when a document has more, and the workbook it wrote is complete. Page numbers come from Word's layout of the open document.
- Opens from Review tab → Comment Navigator group, or Ctrl+Shift+Y (changeable).

## Pro (€49 one-time per person, up to two computers)

- Export with no comment limit.
- Tracked changes in the pane and the exports, numbered T1, T2 and shown in place (inserted / deleted / "2.5" → "3.0").
- Review log as a Word report to print or send.
- Import responses: answers typed in the exported Excel sheet go back into Word as replies under the right comments, resolving items marked Done. Rows are matched by a hidden ID; unmatched rows are listed, never guessed; importing twice adds nothing; one Undo reverts the import.
- Anonymised copy: reviewer names, initials and dates in comment and revision metadata replaced (e.g. "Client", "Checker"). Names in body text and @mentions inside comment text are not changed. Always a copy.
- Folder export: every document in a folder into one workbook with a Document column.
- 14-day trial starting on first use of a Pro feature. Minor updates included; major upgrades discounted. Licence key by email within minutes, verified offline. 30-day no-questions refund.

## Requirements

- Desktop Word for Windows: Word 2016, 2019, 2021, Microsoft 365; 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Not available for Word for Mac or Word on the web.
- Installs per user into %LOCALAPPDATA%\CommentNavigator; no admin rights, no UAC prompt.

## Privacy

- Documents are processed locally inside Word and never uploaded. No account, no telemetry.
- A purchase creates only a name, an email address and the issued licence key.

## Former DocTools users

- DocTools CommentManager and ExtractChanges Pro were retired in April 2026. Comment Navigator covers their core jobs (numbered comments, comment and change extraction with context, author renaming via anonymised copies, folder processing) and adds importing answers back into Word. It is a new product, not affiliated with DocTools.
